Marc and two of the kids picked beans for about two hours on Sunday morning, and then the whole crew got to work snapping them. Yesterday I worked all day on cleaning and canning.
Rebekah took these photos while they were at my father-in-law’s house working (finger smudge on the lens and all!):
…And here’s the finished product–46 quarts:
Marc had fun looking through our Facebook photo archives to compare it to last year’s bean harvest. We did better this year on our first picking (12 quarts compared to 46), and we should be able to pick again this weekend.
How does your garden grow? 🙂
So excited for you and your garden!! We didn't plant any beans, our peas flopped… but our cucumbers, tomatos and peppers are all flourishing. Love the radishes and lettuce, we need to plant more. We have to replant the beats though, they were planted too close together. What else do you have planted? Super exicted about the gardening this year. Are you planting Heirlooms?
Spinach was great but didn't last long enough…now we're into collards and cabbage. (Marc & the kids also shredded and froze a bunch of cabbage on Sunday.) Tomatoes are just starting and there are some peppers out there, too. I was disappointed that it looks like our green peppers flopped so all we have is hot.
Nobody here likes radishes so you can keep those at your house. 😉
Most everything is heirloom except for a few rows of sweet corn. I'm excited for you about your garden–sounds like it's going great!! Will you can or freeze?
You all are so lucky!! We would love to grow and can our own food!:)
